Fun Facts

  • We assembled the hardware and wrote 90% of the software that runs this display nearly from scratch.
  • The new RGB TV Board has 1800 pixels. Every pixel is made up of 3 mini lights (red/green/blue), so in total there are 5400 lights with the RGB TV alone!
  • This display uses around 3600 feet of extension cords.
  • We built the RGB TV ourselves from scratch, just like the Drummer Boy.
  • This display has 104 plugs/circuits. That’s almost double the number of plugs an entire average house has!
  • There are 7 dedicated computers used to run the show, that are the size of a credit card.
  • There is about 27,500 Traditional LED Christmas Lights in this display. That means there is more than a light per person for the entire population of Austin MN.
  • The drummer boy is 16 feet tall, making him almost 3 people high.
  • We built the drummer boy ourselves using corrugated plastic sheets and over 1,400 lights.
  • Each singing tree has 750 lights, which is about double an average indoor Christmas tree.
  • We start programming the show typically in March for the following year, taking about 8 months to create.
  • During a typical holiday season, the full display will run almost 950 times.
  • This entire display only uses the equivalent electricity of fifteen 100-watt light bulbs thanks to LED (Light Emitting Diode) technology.
  • We have nearly all of the Christmas Lights put up by the week after Halloween (thanks to Minnesota winters!)
